Welcome Class of 2024

A Letter from the Interfraternity Council

Monday, August 4, 2020

Dear Students and Parents of the Class of 2024,

We hope you and your loved ones have been safe and healthy during these turbulent and uncertain times.

We would like to take this time to introduce ourselves to you all and give you an understanding of one of the workings of one the largest student bodies on campus. We are the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and we represent and govern over 25 all-male fraternities, two co-ed fraternities, and one all-female sorority at MIT. Members from our organizations come from a very diverse set of backgrounds, have consistently high GPAs in their majors, and can be found holding leadership positions in their sports and clubs on campus. In addition to being an interface between our community and the MIT administration, the IFC oversees risk management at social events, enforces the rules that we collectively agree on, and regulates the recruitment process at our member organizations.

This year, due to the advent of the COVID around the world, we will be deviating from the traditional Rush structure that we follow to promote membership to our organizations. We will be pushing back the in-person elements of our Rush into Spring 2021, conditioning on the guidance MIT will issue for the Spring semester. Instead, we will be having virtual Rush Circles in the Fall which will serve to introduce First Year students to members of our chapters that can give a fair and objective overview of what it's like to be a part of a fraternity at MIT.

In the meantime, the IFC executive team will be hosting a few events during Orientation and early Fall to help answer any questions parents or students have about fraternity life at MIT and the new structure that we will be following. Here is our schedule:

Saturday/Sunday, August 22-23: Parent Orientation Panel

Tuesday, August 25 - 2:30-3:30 pm EST - IFC Info Session for the Class of 2024

We hope that you can join us on these days! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to ifc-exec@mit.edu.

Stay safe and stay healthy,

IFC Executive Board
